A Fond Farewell

A Fond Farewell

So this blog finds me on my last week at HF Mencap and what an amazing 2 years it has been!

I couldn’t believe my luck when I landed a job on the Social Lives project, and we’ve had so many amazing adventures together.

Some of my funniest memories have been: our minibus getting chased by a hungry lion at the Safari park; setting the fire alarm off at the Wizard of Oz Sensory Cinema and having to meet the fire crew dressed as Dorothy; wimping out in the London Dungeons; getting heckled by passers-by whilst dressed as a witch at the Sensory Ghost Walk, and an epic water fight at the Summer Sensory Water Event.

Some of my proudest moments have been seeing: all our members taking it in turns to lead the group; Amy and Jason organising trips, Wayne our wonderful mail-out volunteer develop great skills throughout the year, Delson leading his peers in Street Dance, Drew excelling in his lead role as the Mad Hatter, our new members Nichaela, Sara, Ash and Marcus growing in confidence and making loads of friends and much more!

I have learnt loads in my time at HF Mencap and I am so thankful for your support.  I came into this job thinking I couldn’t do it, and (with your help) I now know that I can. Some important lessons I will take with me are: to (try!) and go with the flow and chill, to not be scared to try new things and to appreciate the small things.

Most importantly I will always remember: no matter how many time Paul tries to explain football league tables to me, I won’t understand, always check where the tube is going before you get on, lifts do not move but just talking, glitter, cake and hugs make everything ok, and Social lives rule at Karaoke and dance moves!

Thanks for everything wonderful people, and keep in touch…or else!
