London Makers Coordinator
Location: Hammersmith & Fulham (with some local travel)
Contract: Fixed-term (funded project – until 1st December 2028)
Hours: Full time
Salary: £29k to £32k
Reports to: Business Development Manager (and wider Senior Management Team)
Hammersmith and Fulham Mencap are a local charity supporting people with learning disabilities to live more independent, connected and fulfilling lives. We work alongside people we support, their families and carers, and our community partners to create opportunities, challenge barriers and raise expectations.
We are committed to co-production, inclusion and equality, and we actively welcome applications from people with lived experience of disability or neurodiversity.
London Makers is an exciting new creative programme where people with learning disabilities and neurodivergent people work as designers and makers, not just participants.
Delivered through a series of 12-week courses, London Makers brings together HF Mencap’s community, creative professionals, colleges and industry partners to co-design and produce high-quality creative work. The programme focuses on shared decision-making, accessible creative practice, and real-world showcasing.
We are looking for a London Makers Coordinator to lead the day-to-day delivery of this programme.
This is a hands-on, people-centred role. You will coordinate sessions, support participants to make decisions, work with creative partners, and ensure the project is delivered safely, accessibly and to a high standard.
You do not need to be a designer or artist. The most important skills are organisation, facilitation, communication, and a strong commitment to inclusive practice.
- Coordinate the delivery of London Makers courses (planning sessions, timetables and activities)
- Support people with learning disabilities and neurodivergent participants to take part as co-designers
- Ensure sessions are accessible, inclusive and responsive to individual needs
- Coordinate creative partners, guest contributors and visits/trips
- Work closely with support staff to ensure wellbeing and safeguarding
- Keep clear records of attendance, decisions, outcomes and learning
- Support reporting requirements for funders and internal review
- Help create a positive, calm and empowering environment for everyone involved
- Experience coordinating projects or programmes (in community, creative, education or support settings)
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Confidence working with people with learning disabilities and/or neurodivergent people
- A values-led approach to inclusion, accessibility and co-production
- Good communication skills and ability to work with a wide range of people
- Understanding of safeguarding and boundaries in support settings (or willingness to learn)
- Experience in creative, cultural or community projects
- Experience facilitating groups or workshops
- Knowledge of inclusive or participatory practice
- Experience working with partners or external organisations
- A supportive and inclusive working environment
- Flexible working where possible
- Generous annual leave entitlement (pro rata)
- Employer pension contribution
- Access to training and development
- The opportunity to help shape an innovative and meaningful programme
HF Mencap is committed to being an inclusive employer. We welcome applications from people with learning disabilities, neurodivergent people, and people from underrepresented backgrounds. We are happy to discuss reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process.
Please send:
- A CV, and
- A short supporting statement (or alternative format) explaining why you are interested in the role and how your experience meets the key requirements.
If you would like to apply in a different format (for example, video or audio), please let us know.
We are actively interviewing for this post and may interview suitable candidates before the closing date. We therefore reserve the right to close the advert early if we appoint to the role.
Support Workers
As of April 2025, we raised our support staff salaries to the London Living Wage, increasing the hourly rate from £12.54 to £13.85.
This change shows how much we value the work our team does for clients with learning disabilities and autism and their families. Raising staff salaries requires careful budgeting and support through government funding for social care. While we can't always guarantee to match the London Living Wage, we will always strive to pay our Support Workers a fair wage that our charity can sustain.
Did you know that 43% of adult social care workers in England earn less than the real Living Wage? It doesn’t have to be like this. Scotland ensures care workers are paid the real Living Wage, and campaigns in Wales led to a commitment from the Welsh Government to do the same starting in 2023.
At HF Mencap, we support the Living Wage for Social Care campaign, which asks the UK Government to ensure that all social care workers in England earn at least the real Living Wage.
